Firefox 7.0 Beta 6-Test the beta version of Firefox

The beta version of Firefox for Windows was already here just days after after the final release of version 6. Mozilla continues to follow the same strategy as Google does with Chrome, creating different development channels to release early versions of their browser as soon as they’re available and keep the final one updated as often as possible.

As with most Firefox betas, the most notable improvement is a slight improvement in speed but the memory leak problem persists, even if Mozilla claim it has been improved in version 7. Other improvements include improvements to Firefox Sync, increased performance for HTML5 Canvas animation and better CSS3 support.

Mozilla have used something called Memshrink to reduce Firefox's notoriously leaky memory problem and claim this could reduce memory usage by up to 50%. However, in tests, we found very little difference between RAM usage in Firefox 6 or 7.

The interface is pretty much the same as Firefox 6, with a minimalist toolbar, and they've kept the "Feedback" button in the top right corner where you can easily submit thoughts on what you like and don't like about Firefox 7.

The major downside for most users is that very few plug-ins or add-ons work with Firefox 7 so if you have a lot installed, prepare to be disappointed.

Firefox 7 Beta isn't a revolution in the development of Firefox but there are some improvements although it remains to be seen if the memory problem will be fixed.
