Trillian Beta is the first public version of the new Trillian 5 – a free, powerful IM client that enables you to connect to multiple networks at the same time.
Unlike other popular IM tools such as Yahoo! Messenger, Skype or Live Messenger, each of them with their own separate user network, Trillian can be used to log in to several different networks simultaneously. This means you can keep in touch with friends and family – including voice and video chat – even if each one is on a different network.
The worst thing about Trillian is its configuration process. Having support for so many services (Live Messenger, AOL Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk, ICQ, MySpaceIM), setting up all your accounts can take you a while. Besides IM, Trillian also connects with your profile on several social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and LinkedIn) and lets you check your email on Gmail and Hotmail.
After a tedious configuration process, Trillian is pretty much ready to use. The interface in Trillian 5 Beta has improved a lot and makes the program a pleasure to use. Not only is the program now lighter on system resources, but it also displays a clearer, simplified design that contributes to Trillian’s ease of use.
Besides the completely redesigned interface, the new Trillian Beta includes other minor interesting features, like support for tabbed conversations, ability to send quick replies to chat messages from the desktop notification and integration with Wikipedia.
Trillian features a complete settings menu, with which you can configure the program to the smallest detail, from the accounts you want to set up to the way you want contacts to be displayed, or the appearance of your messages.
