Pirates of Tortuga 2.0-An online strategy and resource management game

Pirates of Tortuga is an online resource management game, playable in your browser.

The game starts after you've been shipwrecked on an island. The tutorial begins there, where you build clay mines, a port and other buildings, before repairing your ship and setting sail for the island of Tortuga. There you can recruit pirates and trade the goods you get from your settlement and rob from trade ships.

The graphics are reasonable, but a little dull and your settlement refreshes awkwardly when you get new buildings. The gameplay is much like a pirate version of FarmVille, in that you have to wait a certain amount of time for anything you want to do. Building and upgrading your settlement takes time, as does attacking sea traders and traveling. There is no action in Pirates of Tortuga, just clicking and waiting.

For this type of social online game, Pirates of Tortuga isn't bad, but nor does it stand out. It is unlikely to woo beginners, but will attract fans of the genre. The pirate theme isn't convincing, because it's neither realistic nor does it have any real character. Pirates of Tortuga just feels very generic, and the lackluster gameplay doesn't help.

There are many similar online games that are much more enjoyable than Pirates of Tortuga, which can't raise itself above being average.
